Is That Thing Diesel?
One Man, One Bike and the First Lap Around Australia On Used Cooking Oil
Paul Carter
$24.99
At forty years old, a successful writer, husband and father, no longer toiling on offshore drilling rigs, was Paul Carter happily nestled in the cotton wool of suburban life enjoying the fruits of his labour? Was he f**k! With his manic life left far behind and the perfect opportunity to take it easy stretched before him what else would a middle-aged, bike obsessed, man want? Yes, that's right, he'd want to be the first guy to ride around Australia on an underpowered experimental motorcycle that runs on used cooking oil, wouldn't he? Preferably without getting hit by a semi-trailer full of bridge parts. Is he out of his mind? Quite possibly. Embark on a rollickingly, downright dangerous and often unhinged quest that starts on an environmentally friendly motorcycle built on a shoestring budget by students, and ends with a plan to break the motorcycle land speed record for bio fuel. Carter is back to his old balls-to-the-wall style of writing, prepare to laugh out loud.

Ben Cousins My Life Story
Ben Cousins
$34.99
Ben Cousins has one of the most extraordinary stories in modern Australian sport. He's perhaps the most gifted player of his generation – a former captain of the West Coast eagles, a Brownlow medallist, a premiership winner, voted the AFL's Most Valuable Player – but he's best known for what he's done off the footy field rather than on it. Ben is a self-confessed drug addict, whose drug binges would last for days and involve incredible amounts of cocaine, crack and ice. But what's really remarkable about Ben's story is that the two sides of his life – the captaincy, the premierships, the Brownlow, the accolades, and the frenzy and squalor of the drug scene were actually done at the same time, side by side. Ben's book is an account of this double life, and what it's cost him, his family and his friends. It's also an account of his battles to beat his addiction, and his battle to keep playing football – which was his lifeline – against the entrenched opposition of a large number of people in the game. And as if the story is not extraordinary enough, what distinguishes it above all else is the approach Ben's taken to writing it. It is a work of searing emotional and factual honesty. Ben hides nothing, and the result is one of the most remarkable sporting memoirs ever published in Australia.

Enter Night Metallica The Biography
Mick Wall
$35.00
Mick Wall moves on from Led Zeppelin to produce a definitive doorstop on Metallica. Alongside contemporaries Slayer, Megadeath and Anthrax, Metallica came to prominence in the eighties as one of the 'big four' of thrash metal. Metallica were to thrash, though, what the Sex Pistols were to punk. Nearly thirty years on, their tale is one of alcohol, rule breaking and tragically early death. But allied to that are colossal sales figures for their records - they are the fifth-highest selling recording artists of all time - and members with backgrounds that touch on jazz and classical music. Metallica, in fact, have garnered more critical acclaim than any heavy rock band since Led Zeppelin.Fresh from the critical and commercial success of When Giants Walked The Earth, Mick Wall takes a similar informed look at the band, a group he has known on and off since their formation in 1981.

After retiring as a player in 1964, Richie quickly became a successful TV commentator. No one else has found such favour with the vast numbers of cricket lovers in both Britain and Australia. In Over But Not Out, Richie revisits his rich career and reveals his thoughts on some of the most controversial issues in the game. Looking back on England s victories in the 2005 and 2009 Ashes series, Richie debates the future of Test cricket and, conversely, the recent growth in Twenty20 cricket, the effect it has had on technique, and the rise of India as a major power in world cricket.Richie has known every major figure in cricket for fifty years, as colleague and friend or both, and in Over But Not Out, Richie turns his attention to the role of coaches such as John Buchanan, Duncan Fletcher and Peter Moores, and players such as Shane Warne, Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen. With the expansion of the IPL, increasingly overloaded schedules and referral systems becoming more commonplace, Over But Not Out is the must-read cricket book of 2010.
